If you’re lucky, some antiques come with a story that really makes you fall in love with the piece even more. If you love antiques… you know what I am talking about.
This antique lady’s writing desk belonged to a 91 year old woman who had just passed away. It was made, and given to her by her grandfather, perhaps as a wedding gift. In those days, that was quite a generous gift. We estimate it to be over 100 years old, making it a true antique. She cared for this piece and kept it in great condition. You can tell however: that it’s old, worn and loved. Pieces like these were made to last, to be used in the home and perhaps shared with future generations. It wasn’t a disposable society then, as it is today, but quite the opposite.
Antiques bring something that a new piece can never offer. It’s the story, the memory of a time long ago. A life where living was very hard, and because of that, gifts were hand made with love and cherished by the owner.
This desk is a grand and stately piece which will be the focal point of any room. It has a small foot print, only 40 inches wide and 21 inches deep, but its impressive height of 7 foot 8 inches will make a bold statement in your home. This one of a kind, handmade desk is not a reproduction piece, but a genuine antique. A nice old white chair is included to complete the statement.
We at The Falling Down Shed want to keep these memories alive for years to come. This piece has been repainted with Old White chalk paint and distressed to enhance its age. It’s a piece to be used and enjoyed for many years to come and we like to think… perhaps given to a new generation of lovers of the “old”.
